Background of the study
Online discussion forums have become a widely used tool in education, offering students the opportunity to engage in collaborative learning and deepen their understanding of subjects through peer interactions. These forums provide a platform for students to post questions, share resources, discuss topics, and receive feedback from both their peers and instructors (Chen & Wang, 2023; Mertens & Schmidt, 2024). In Gombe Local Government Area, Gombe State, secondary schools can benefit from online discussion forums by enhancing students' critical thinking, communication skills, and academic performance.
Despite the advantages, the effectiveness of online discussion forums in secondary schools depends on factors such as students' internet access, familiarity with digital tools, and the level of teacher involvement in moderating and guiding the discussions. This study aims to explore the effectiveness of online discussion forums in improving learning outcomes in secondary schools in Gombe, examining the challenges and success factors associated with their use.
